Remember the six-year-old kid in you that thought that anything was possible?

The kid that had an unwavering belief that they could be a Starbucks barista, win the Nobel Prize, fly to the moon, go to university, become a President or Prime Minister, a parent, become a carpenter, an actress, an activist, a professional athlete, the next YouTube sensation…

And then one day at some point in your life, someone asked you a question, you witnessed someone failing (maybe yourself) or you were straight out told you couldn’t do it or it wasn’t possible. And, at that moment everything shifted.

Doubt and uncertainty filled your whole body.

It became a realization that maybe it wasn’t possible. Maybe you didn’t have what it would ‘take’ to achieve the role, build the house, save the world…What changed? Here’s what I think…it’s as simple as hearing someone else’s opinion and letting it influence your thought.

Isn’t it crazy to think that we allow ourselves (me included!) to be influenced by others’ doubts and fears?

I get asked this question often, “how can I be more confident stepping into my interview?”It’s easy for me say, “ignore the doubt, ignore the fear, ignore all the noise” But to be honest, I don’t want you to ignore it. I want you to objectively listen to the fear, the doubt, the noise and get curious. Ask yourself:

  • Why do I feel this way?
  • What’s causing this for me?
  • What situations trigger this feeling?
  • What’s holding me back?
  • If I failed trying, what’s the worst that could happen?

Find the root cause to why you might be feeling this way and then think of some ways you can combat them.

Maybe it’s talking it through with a friend, coach or therapist. It could be acknowledging the doubt through journaling and mindfully choosing to let it go. It could be setting a positive intention, reciting positive affirmations, meditating, whatever it takes to SHIFT YOUR MINDSET. And then TAKE ACTION.

There isn’t a one size fits all formula for curing self-doubt.

I believe your confidence is built and sustained on how you feel about yourself and the actions you take towards building the life you love.

So let’s meet our fears straight on and not let them stop us from living our most meaningful and productive year yet!
